Room Art Space in Garden City presents an exclusive evening of transcendental entertainment. First, performing solo is Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush/Shalabi Effect), followed by The Dwarfs of East Agouza (a trio featuring Maurice Louca, Alan Bishop, & Sam Shalabi), and The Invisible Hands (their quartet setup with Alan Bishop, Cherif El Masri, Aya Hemeda, & Adham Zidan). This event promises to deliver experimentation in folk, rock, noise, psychedelia, and improvisation, provided by some of the most challenging musical acts Cairo has to offer. SAM SHALABI

Sam Shalabi is an Egyptian-Canadian composer and improviser, living between Montreal, Quebec and Cairo, Egypt. Beginning in punk rock in the late 70s, his work has evolved into a fusion of experimental, modern Arabic Music that incorporates traditional Arabic, shaabi, noise, classical, text, free improvisation and jazz. He has released 5 solo albums, 5 albums with Shalabi Effect, a free improvisation quartet that bridges western psychedelic music and Arabic Maqam (scales) and 3 albums with Land Of Kush (an experimental 30 member orchestra, for which he composes). He has appeared on over 60 albums and toured Europe, North America and North Africa. Recent projects include the release of the 6th Shalabi Effect album, a duo album with Stefan Christoff, two albums on the Italian label Sagittarius, with Beirut, Turkish and Egyptian musicians, and a tour in the eastern US with Alvarius B, playing solo oud (Arabic Lute). He is also releasing a new composition for oud and electronics on Nashazphone called 'Isis and Osiris' as well as releasing an album with The Dwarfs Of East Agouza, a Cairo based trio with Maurice Louca and Alan Bishop, and is currently working on his 6th solo album.

The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio from Cairo formed in 2012 by Maurice Louca (keyboards/electronics), Sam Shalabi (electric guitar/synth), and Alan Bishop (guitar/saxophone/vocals). The group utilizes improvisation to propel their unique, exciting, and hypnotic musical vision. They are putting the finishing touches on their debut album which should appear sometime in 2016 and considering each member's many individual projects and as difficult as it is for these three to be in the same place at the same time, this is a great opportunity to witness and hear this group perform live. This will be only the 3rd time they have appeared live. Do not miss it!

THE INVISIBLE HANDS

This will be The Invisible Hands' first appearance at Room in Garden City performing with their slightly stripped-down 4-piece setup.

The Invisible Hands was created by Alan Bishop (AKA Alvarius B. of legendary US band Sun City Girls and co-owner of the Sublime Frequencies record label), with Cairo-based musicians Cherif El Masri, Aya Hemeda, Adham Zidan and Magued Nagati. The group was established during the summer of 2011, their debut album was released in March 2013, and their second album, Teslam, in December 2014.
