The Ahmed Nazmi Quartet is the brainchild of renowned bassist, Ahmed Nazmi whose sound draws its unique character from his early interest in playing Egyptian traditional music on varied instruments and exploring music from other cultures.
Before he had turned 15, Nazmi was already playing the Oud, classical guitar and drums, eventually bonding with the bass guitar. He is one of the few bassists that have managed to blend the traditions of contemporary bass playing with his Egyptian heritage.
As he continues to develop his own signature sound, he has been revisiting his heritage with a new perspective and has created an original approach of playing the bass in a way that produces distinctive styles while blending various influences, including jazz, African, and Egyptian music.
He released his first Bass solo album “ETHBAT HALA” in July 2012 and his second album “Shams in 2018 which both featured some of the finest musicians in Egypt and great international musicians, including the Syrian saxophone player, Basel Rajoub, the Dutch/Iranian percussionist Babak Madda and the Belgian Pianist Jonas Cambien.
Since “Shams”, Nazmi’s musical portfolio has incorporated a range of sounds, mesmerizing audiences with the vast stories that his compositions tell. The music not only combines new ideas beyond the typical structures, but, as well, innovates between the traditional and modern, inspiring listeners to experience sound at deeper and more alluring level.
