A Swiss - Egyptian Experience

Room Art Space is inviting you to a Swiss - Egyptian Experience by Ala Fekra Project!

The new project by the wonderful accordionist Patricia Draeger is an inspiring cultural exchange between Egyptian and Swiss musicians. The impulse came during a three-month
stay in the artists residency in Cairo 2016-2017 , where Draeger met the musicians Amr Darwish (violin) and Yamen Abdallah (Qanun). "I felt that we could create something new, create new music and find a common language - that we could build bridges." With multi-instrumentalist and composer Albin Brun, with whom she has been playing for many years, and bassist André Pousaz two Swiss musicians joined the band. Also new is the percussionist Samuel Baur. Top accomplished musicians, who find their way in all styles. In February 2018, the music was developed during a ten-day tour in Cairo. It integrates original compositions from both sides, with their respective influences. This summer a CD was recorded and the band played several concerts in Switzerland. Ala Fekra was invited i.a. to the prestigious “Jazz Fesitval Willisau.”Their concerts were received enthusiastically by both the audience and the critics.

Ala Fekra play a lively, enriched with jazz elements folk music, that combines down-to-earth Swissness with the longing breeze of oriental music.
